Over the last few days, we’ve taken a look here on the WSpider blog at what kind of content your new website (or website remodel) needs to succeed, and some basic guidelines for putting the site’s structure all together from a content perspective.
We’ve talked about the 4 basic content essentials. We’ve reviewed the idea of level two site content. Now, it’s time to dig in to what we’ll refer to as “level 3” web site content.
To help understand the different types of content further, let’s look at it with this analogy...Most experienced web developers would agree that your site should be set up kind of like a tree with different branches. The roots and trunk of the tree is kind of like your overall domain and your basic four pages. The tree’s major branches are like your level two pages. And that “leaves” our level threes (sorry for the bad pun there)...
What is level 3 website content?
Level three website content are the smaller branches that carry all of the leaves of your website. They’re essential for delivering nutrients, or in our case visitors, back to the main part of the tree. They reach out far and ripple in the wind—or in other words, they’re out spread out in the search engines across a wide expanse, working hard at attracting unique visitors one at a time and leading them back to the “bread and butter” content pages of your website.
Sure, the analogy is a little cheesy, but wouldn’t you agree that it makes good sense? Every part of your website plays its own unique and vital function to keeping the whole thing alive and well...successful if you will.
What topics does level 3 web content cover?
Ideally, your level 3 pages represent your most niche keyword phrases. While level 2 content is optimized to cover the major keywords—or the major topics of your site—the level 3 breaks these topics down into small and focused bite sized morsels that are both appealing to visitors and tasty to the search engines. If you’ve ever heard the phrase “long-tail” in the world of web marketing, that term would refer precisely to your level 3 web content.
Taking the next steps with content development...
This all brings us to one more very important factor. Now that we know the overview of how each type of web content plays an integral part of the website puzzle, we need to discuss how to actually come up with good ideas for developing content.
